Within the EU, Regulation (EU) 2018/762 stipulates the implementation of a safety management system for rail transport companies. The reason for this directive is to ensure safe rail operations and the associated control of risks.

What is the SMS regulation in the railroad sector?
The safety management system of rail transport companies comprises relevant documented procedures that show how the company demonstrably complies with or implements applicable safety regulations. The requirements stipulated by law must be implemented and applied in a targeted manner.

- Creation or preparation of all necessary documents for obtaining a traffic permit as well as application and processing of any queries from the authorities
- Assumption of the function of the responsible (external) project manager and contact person vis-à-vis the authorities (ERA) or national authority for obtaining the Single Safety Certificate (SSC)
- Development of a management system in line with requirements on the basis of regulation-compliant templates and preparation of the application documents as well as official submission of the applications in the One-Stop Shop of the European Union Agency for Railways (ERA)
- Organisation of a preliminary and final meeting with the European Union Agency for Railways (ERA)
- Coordination and support in preparing and applying for the additional documents required to apply for the Single Safety Certificate
- Support in the implementation of national requirements for Austria, Germany, etc. (in all European countries)
